PitchBook vs Crunchbase Deal Comparison

How to Download PitchBook Data

  1. Log in to PitchBook at my.pitchbook.com
  2. Navigate to Deals Search and filter by your investor
  3. Required Columns: Ensure these columns are included:
    • Deal ID - Unique identifier
    • Companies - Company name
    • Deal Date - Announcement date
    • Deal Type - Financing type (e.g., Later Stage VC, PE Growth/Expansion)
    • Deal Size - Amount raised (recommended)
    • Raised to Date - Total funding to date (recommended)
  4. Export to Excel - Click Export button and download .xlsx file
  5. Upload here - Use the file input on the left sidebar (default: skip 7 header rows)

Tip: PitchBook exports have 7 header rows by default. The app auto-converts dates and matches companies using both exact and fuzzy matching.

Tab 1: Investor Portfolio Analytics

Overview:

This tab provides a high-level view of investor portfolios and their G2 client coverage. For each investor, it shows:

  • INVESTOR NAME: Name of the investment firm or individual investor
  • INVESTOR TYPES: Type(s) of investor (Venture Capital, Angel, Corporate VC, Hedge Fund, etc.)
  • ALL TIME PORTFOLIO COMPANIES: All-time number of portfolio companies (vendors) the investor has backed throughout history
  • ALL TIME PORTFOLIO COMPANY PRODUCTS: (Product view only) All-time number of products across all portfolio companies
  • ACTIVE PORTFOLIO COMPANIES: Number of portfolio companies still in active portfolio (excludes companies acquired by others or IPO'd after investment)
  • ACTIVE PORTFOLIO COMPANY PRODUCTS: (Product view only) Number of products within active portfolio companies
  • ACTIVE PORTCO CURRENT G2 CLIENTS: Number of current G2 clients within active portfolio companies
  • ALL TIME PORTCO CURRENT G2 CLIENTS: Number of current G2 clients across all-time portfolio (including exited companies)
  • ACTIVE PORTCO CLIENT PCT: Percentage of active portfolio that are current G2 clients
  • ALL TIME PORTCO CLIENT PCT: Percentage of all-time portfolio that are current G2 clients
Exit Logic:

Active portfolio excludes companies that have truly exited:

  • Companies acquired by a different investor (not the same one)
  • Companies that IPO'd after the investment was made

Active portfolio includes: Companies acquired by the same investor, and companies that were already public before investment.

Investment Metrics (optional):
  • ESTIMATED_TOTAL_INVESTED_USD: Estimated total amount invested (funding round size ÷ investor count per round)
  • AVG_INVESTMENT_SIZE_USD: Average investment size per portfolio company
  • TOTAL_PORTFOLIO_FUNDING_USD: Total funding raised by all portfolio companies
Opportunity Metrics (optional):
  • TOTAL_OPPORTUNITIES: Total G2 opportunities across portfolio
  • OPEN_OPPORTUNITIES: Currently open G2 opportunities
  • TOTAL_OPPORTUNITY_ACV: Total Annual Contract Value of all opportunities
  • OPEN_OPPORTUNITY_ACV: ACV of currently open opportunities
  • AVG_WIN_RATE_PCT: Average win rate percentage across portfolio

Use the filters to narrow by investor type, and toggle between vendor-level and product-level views. Product view groups by portfolio company and shows product counts.


Tab 2: Vendors/Products Deep Dive by Investor

Product & Vendor Information:
  • PRODUCT_ID / VENDOR_ID / ACCOUNT_ID: Internal G2 identifiers
  • PRODUCT_NAME: Name of the software product(s). When in 'By Vendor' view, multiple products are collapsed with ' | ' separator
  • VENDOR_NAME: Name of the vendor company
  • MAIN_CATEGORY_NAME: Primary software category (e.g., CRM, Marketing Automation)
  • REPORT_CATEGORIES: Categories where product appears in G2 Grid Reports
  • PRODUCT_DOMAIN: Company website domain
  • FOUNDED_ON_YEAR: Year the company was founded
  • NUMBER_OF_EMPLOYEES: Employee count from LinkedIn data
  • ACQUIRER_NAME: If acquired, the acquiring company name
  • IPO_DATE: Date of Initial Public Offering (if applicable)
G2 Client Account Information:
  • IS_G2_CLIENT: In 'By Vendor' view: shows 'X/Y products' (X products are clients out of Y total). In 'By Product' view: TRUE/FALSE
  • SUBSCRIPTION_STATUS: G2 subscription status (active, inactive, etc.)
  • SUBSCRIPTION_START_DATE: Date vendor became a G2 client
  • ACCOUNT_REGION: Geographic region for the account
  • TOTAL_VENDOR_ACV: Total Annual Contract Value across all vendor products
  • ACTIVE_ACV: Active Annual Contract Value
  • PACKAGE: G2 subscription package tier
  • TIER: Account tier classification
  • ACCOUNT_SEGMENT: Account segment (Enterprise, SMB, etc.)
  • ACCOUNT_OWNER: G2 account owner
  • CUSTOMER_SUCCESS_MANAGER: Assigned CSM
Crunchbase Funding Data:
  • TOTAL_FUNDING_USD: Total funding raised (USD)
  • NUM_FUNDING_ROUNDS: Number of funding rounds
  • LAST_FUNDING_DATE: Date of most recent funding
  • LATEST_ROUND_TYPE: Type of latest funding round (Series A, B, etc.)
  • LATEST_ROUND_AMOUNT_USD: Amount raised in latest round
  • LATEST_ROUND_VALUATION_USD: Company valuation after latest round
  • LATEST_ROUND_DATE: Date of latest funding round
  • LATEST_ROUND_INVESTOR_COUNT: Number of investors in latest round
  • CB_CITY / CB_COUNTRY_CODE / CB_STATE_CODE: Company location from Crunchbase
G2 Review Data:
  • SURVEY_RESPONSES_COUNT: Total number of G2 reviews
  • AVG_NPS: Average Net Promoter Score
  • AVG_EASE_OF_ADMIN: Average rating for ease of administration
  • AVG_EASE_OF_DOING_BUSINESS_WITH: Average rating for ease of doing business
  • AVG_EASE_OF_SETUP: Average rating for ease of setup
  • AVG_EASE_OF_USE: Average rating for ease of use
  • AVG_MEETS_REQUIREMENTS: Average rating for meeting requirements
  • AVG_QUALITY_OF_SUPPORT: Average rating for support quality
  • AVG_RIGHT_DIRECTION_WEIGHT: Average score for product direction (0-1 scale)
G2 Grid Report Scores:
  • REPORT_QUARTER: Quarter for Grid Report data (e.g., winter-2025)
  • SATISFACTION: Customer satisfaction score (0-100)
  • MARKET_PRESENCE: Market presence score (0-100)
  • G2_SCORE: Overall G2 Score (0-100)
  • G2_RANK: Ranking within category (lower is better)
  • *_PREVQ: Same metrics from previous quarter
  • *_QOQ_CHANGE: Quarter-over-quarter change in metric

  • Portfolio Valuation: Individual company valuation history showing funding rounds

  • In 'By Vendor' view mode, funding data columns show the same value across all products (not summed) since funding applies to the vendor, not individual products
  • Currency values are in USD
  • Scores and ratings are typically on 0-100 scale unless otherwise specified
